Abstract: A 130-acre estate in Napa, California that also boasts a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard has just hit the market for $22 million.

The sprawling estate, which has two parcels of land, sits atop Mount Veeder and features a pair of bold, all-white modern homes.

The main cottage home has four bedrooms, a wood-panelled library/office, fitness centre, kitchen, and living and dining areas.

High-impact aesthetics are the name of the game here, as striking details are scattered throughout the property.

A striking folded circular sculpture by artist Fletcher Benton greets guests at the entrance. Meanwhile, two bedrooms are located in grand wings that artfully extend out from each end of the home.

At the rear of the house, a two-bedroom guest tower offers 360-degree views of Napa Valley.

Arthur Goodrich, listing agent at Sotheby's International Realty-St. Helena Brokerage, recalls, "When I first drove up to the property, my first thought was, 'Wow, where did this come from?' of?"

I had never seen anything so modern in Napa Valley. It looked like a sculpture perched on top of Mount Veeder. The uniqueness of the home and the view that sits atop the hill is breathtaking.

Listing information shows that the home is a blend of modernist, art deco and deconstructivist styles.

Built in 1988, the home boasts cathedral ceilings, angular lines and lots of glass windows and doors.

There are a lot of giant homes in Napa Valley with 35-foot ceilings, but this one is more sensible and manageable," Goodrich says. It doesn't feel like a monolith. It's very comfortable."

An in-ground pool separates the main villa from the guesthouse tower.

The tower is not what you might expect. It was designed by British architect David Connor and has five floors and two bedrooms.

The tower is reportedly claimed to be the tallest building in all of Napa County. The lookout area at the top of the tower offers 360-degree views of the Napa Valley.

There are over eight acres of prime Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards and several wells that supply water to the home and vineyards. The winery describes the grapes grown here as having produced award-winning wines.

"The Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard is in full production. The Cabernet Sauvignon here is premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

The listing also includes an updated two-bedroom caretaker's house.

Goodrich believes the next buyer's interest may be similar to the past owners of the cottage.

I think it will be someone who collects art, or at least appreciates it, or maybe even a philanthropist," he says. It could also be a technology executive with a family."

He envisages the property being used as a second home, noting that this makes sense for a home of this calibre. He also predicts that the buyer will be someone who lives in the nearby Bay Area "so they can use it regularly."

Goodrich added that the current owners were attracted to the home's design when they first saw it.

"They immediately fell in love with it and said they wanted to buy it right away", he said.
