The Russian-born designer, who taught in the architecture departments of Harvard and Yale during his long career, lived in Wellfleet for 55 years and brought "conceptual rigor and a profoundly cosmopolitan style" to Cape Cod, the Wellfleet Historical Commission noted. A signature panel on the exterior of his own studio became a hallmark of his work. He died in 1996.
The vintage home was last sold in 2007 for $1.8 million.
The nearly 2,500-square-foot, eclectic waterfront home is typical of Chermayeff's design, with its open floor plan, four private bedrooms and master suites on each level.
In addition to all the necessities of a Cape Cod resort - including an outdoor shower and ample space to relax on the deck - the 2.3-acre property includes a private tennis court and deeded access to Seagull Pond, a five-minute walk from the main house.
In addition to the meticulously maintained home, the next owner will enjoy an amazing private location among the bustling Cape Cod National Seashore. The home boasts over two acres of wooded land nestled in the heart of Wellfleet's sandy bottom freshwater pond area.
This location also offers proximity to prized locations such as Newcomb Hollow Beach, just a two minute drive down the road.
Although recently renovated to accommodate year-round residents, the home retains its original beauty and offers beach-bound buyers a ready-to-move-in opportunity just in time for summer.
