Located in Greenwich, Connecticut, Copper Beech Farm boasts a mile of waterfront shoreline and is just 35 miles from Midtown Manhattan. The magnificent home just sold for $138.83 million.
Set on a private peninsula, the estate was once the most expensive home in the United States. The 50-acre estate is the largest waterfront parcel in Greenwich.
The mansion, which sits 40 feet above the water, was put on the market in February for $150 million.
Leslie McElwreath and Joseph Barbieri of Sotheby's International Realty-Greenwich Brokerage, in partnership with Nikki Field of Sotheby's International Realty-East Manhattan Brokerage, represented the listing.
"Copper Beech Farm is the crown jewel of the Greenwich coastline," McElwreath said in a statement." It is a stunning estate with every luxury imaginable, a premium holiday destination where you can live, work and play."
Stephanie Bo Li of Douglas Elliman found the lucky buyer for the deal. While the purchase price was made public, the buyer's details were not disclosed.
But what we do know is that this is the most expensive property ever sold in Connecticut. Additionally, the 50-acre property is the fifth largest residential property for sale on the East Coast and the ninth largest in the country, according to Douglas Elliman.
The property last sold in 2014 for $120 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Built in 1898 and later thoughtfully restored to modern standards, including all electrical and plumbing fixtures, the 13,519-square-foot main house includes eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Oak panelling, plaster friezes, fireplaces and 12-foot ceilings in the main rooms are among the home's most impressive interiors.
At the end of the 1,800-foot-long driveway, two French Renaissance-style towers form a grand entrance. A garage, pool, concierge and two greenhouses dot the landscape.
A pool, grass tennis court, apple orchard, walled garden and two private beaches are some of the property's notable amenities. You can even paddle out to a private island for a picnic - another luxury amenity that helped the property gain favour with buyers.
Barbieri said in a statement, "The opportunity to purchase a home of this high calibre is truly rare." We are honoured to represent such an unparalleled historic property in one of the most coveted markets.
