The seller is former NBA guard Dion Waiters, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The prolific scorer played eight seasons in the NBA, earning a reputation as a player capable of scoring on a consistent basis. He also earned the nickname "Waiters Island" from NBA pundits who believed in his ability and appreciated his boastfulness.
Since winning a ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, Waiters has left the league and is now on the move again - this time out of South Florida.
"He loves his hometown [Philadelphia] and goes there a lot," explained listing agent Ashley Michelle Velez of P.U.R.E. Investments." They're not quite sure if they want to stay in Miami just yet. They're going back and forth between Philadelphia and Miami."
The roughly 14,000-square-foot home was built in 2016 on nearly two acres. And the former shooter even adjusted his moniker to fit his mansion.
Whites "calls it Whites Island because it's his own private retreat," Velez said." On that land, you don't feel like anyone is around you. It's a big piece of land for those who want privacy. It feels like it's his own retreat and he loves the house."
The interior of the house has nine bedrooms and 11 full bathrooms. The new owner will have several luxurious master bedrooms to choose from.
"It has three main suites, so it's not just one [main] bedroom," Velez says." The wardrobes are insane. The kitchen is gorgeous. I mean, it's an amazing, amazing property. The master bedroom is one of the coolest things in the house, and you don't get things like that very often."
The other main suite is on the lower level and the third suite is on the other side of the house, on the first floor.
"That's where their guests and their mums live," Velez explains." It had another huge bathroom and a huge closet."
The Waiters have been using one of the bedrooms as a home theatre, but Velez says it could easily be converted back to a bedroom.
"The children's room is also very nice and they have a very large closet," she notes.
For the larger family, the other two bedrooms and the bathroom have a separate entrance near the huge kitchen area.
"The kitchen is just amazing," insists Velez." With all the islands, you have so much space. You walk in and you're like, "Wow."
A series of reflecting pools at the front of the house give it a spectacular entrance. The pool area at the back is flanked by plenty of seating, an outdoor kitchen, a teppanyaki grill and barbecue. And there's room for more.
"With two areas in the yard, you could definitely add a tennis court or a full basketball court, which is something a lot of people in Miami would like to do - they just don't have enough land to do it," Velez said.
So far, she says she has shown the house to a number of footballers, basketball players and various wealthy people.
"I deal with a lot of athletes and entertainers, so I know the level of these clients," Velez said." I've sold far more houses than this and far less. When I first saw the house, I thought it was beautiful. It's a very large house and when you walk in it's absolutely stunning."
