"It was once a World War II landing craft," explains Michele Affronte, a Sausalito Engel & Völkers housing agent.
During the war, Sausalito built landing craft; this one was towed over in the 1960s and then converted into a floating home.
After being remodelled into a cosy bohemian home, the beautiful house is on the market for $730,000, which is $20,000 less than the original listing price.
The 568-square-foot home sits on the water, along a dock that isn't going anywhere.
All floating homes are not drivable, which is one of the stipulations of a floating home marina," said Affront. They have to be stable and tied down in four places, going up and down with the tides."
This is the second time Affronte has listed the house for sale - about two years ago, she sold it to the current owner.
Affronte says, "The owner did a lot of renovations after she bought it, but she still retained all the old-world charm of the fine wood."
She also made a point of buying vintage when she purchased all the new appliances, so they look really cool.
Inside, there's a loft-style bedroom, a bathroom, a living room and kitchen with a flex space in the back.
It can be a living room or a second bedroom," Affronte says. It's like a lounge with pillows everywhere and beautiful curtains, and you can open the windows and see the marina."
The home sits on a concrete floating barge with storage, washer and dryer in the front hull area.
The concrete barge that floats the home is a large concrete bathtub that floats on the water, so if you go down the stairs into the concrete barge, you can see the original wooden hull inside, says Affront.
The home comes with a deck and more space to relax on the nearby dock. If you enjoy water sports, this is the perfect place to launch your boat.
You can easily drive a kayak or even a motorboat right into the main lagoon in less than two minutes," Affronte says, adding that there's also convenient land parking close to the home. Although the house is small, it has everything you need for full-time living or renting - as long as the rental period is 30 days or longer.
She muses, "Someone could have a great time living here. The charm of this place is amazing."
