Dubbed "The Columns," the stately home is uniquely designed, combining the original Greek Revival mansion with a modern addition.
Leslie McElwreath, listing agent with Sotheby's International Realty - Greenwich Brokerage, said, "This is a very unusual home because it has two completely different aesthetics. There's the historic home built in the 20th century with a Gilded Age style and double porches."
Then there's the addition - a striking wing designed by architect Allan Greenberg.
It's a masterful mix of styles, including a spectacular kitchen, family room and main suite.
According to McElwreath, the glass and steel addition was completed about a decade ago and was carefully grafted onto the existing century-old home.
She says, "In designing the addition, they maintained the integrity of the old world home." The columns in the main part of the house are reminiscent of the White House.
The sellers have owned the property for less than two years and are pricing it with the hope of making a $2 million profit. The property last sold in December 2021 for $12.25 million.
The home sits on 3.7 acres of lush greenery, which McElwraz believes enhances its appeal.
It's a very private, large lot," she said. It's unique in that it's only minutes from town, but when you're here you really feel away from it all, she says. Everything is so convenient."
McElwreath explains that when designing the home, the owners wanted to modernise it while retaining its historic integrity.
They enlisted Victoria Hagan for the interior design and Stephen Stimson for the landscape plan. Everything has been meticulously maintained over the years. They wanted to highlight the historic details of the home, hence the very monochromatic colour scheme. Everything is gorgeous and very well kept.
The four-storey home is fully furnished and boasts high ceilings, walls of glass and a lift.
There are nine bedrooms in the main house, and a separate two-bedroom guest house awaits family and friends.
There are plenty of options when it comes to recreation too - tennis, squash and basketball courts as well as a swimming pool and spa.
McElwreath says: "It's designed to be used as a primary residence, but it's also a great getaway." It is also ideally located just 35 miles from the city centre.
